About

We are Sophie and Lisandros, couple and cofounders of Meat And Greek. We have sold Greek Cypriot Souvlaki on the street food and festival scene of Wales since 2014.

It’s a real pinch me moment as for many years we traded just outside the Market as part of Newport’s phenomenal local food and drink festival under a gazebo! We are unbelievably proud to be opening our second store in Newport.

We started our business after serving Lisandro’s traditional family recipe to my Welsh family on holiday. It went down an absolute storm and we decided to see if other people would love it too.

Within 6 months we had quit our day jobs and were cooking and serving souvlaki full time! What started as simply giving something a go has turned into our full time livelihood and passion.

We are best known for serving our hearty no-nonsense Authentic Greek Cypriot Souvlaki.

So what’s souvlaki? Souvlaki translates literally to “little skewer”. Think toasted pitta pockets packed with succulent charcoaled chicken or pork, fresh salad, homemade tzatziki, houmous and grilled halloumi cheese, then garnished with chopped onion and parsley – delicious! And if meat’s not your thing, no problem! Swap it for halloumi and get stuck in.

We cook over lump wood charcoal as it produces a unique flavour that cannot be replicated by any other cooking method. Nothing beats the sight and smell, whether you are at a festival or at one of our stores our kitchen is open to feast your eyes on!
