Who we are

Cairo Corner is a small independent business, aiming to bring the food and atmosphere of the streets of Egypt to South Wales. After decades of experience in mostly Lebanese restaurants, our owner and chef Mohamed wanted to revive his home country’s favourite dishes, which he was missing vividly as they were not really being sold anywhere in Wales.

Background

Cairo Corner at Newport Market is our first venue, and we’re excited to introduce our food and concept!

What we do

At Cairo Corner, we proudly offer a delectable selection of traditional Egyptian street food. It includes a diverse array of vegan options, unique meat dishes for our meat lovers as well as the comforting familiarity of pizzas and sandwiches for those seeking more classic options.

Our ambiance is a tribute to the spirit of street food, simplicity and authenticity, showcasing images of genuine street food artisans, and a few handmade items. We are very attached to our little wooden camels handmade in Palestine and proud of our tiny tuktuk made in recycled newspaper by a Sri Lankan social enterprise!

We are indeed committed to sustainability, our counter is made of recycled wood, our cutlery is made with cornstarch and all our packaging is compostable.

Our Menu Highlights:

  • Koshari (Egyptian staple food made with rice, pasta, lentil, chickpeas, fried onions and spicy tomato sauce)
  • Sandwiches and traditional bites
  • Fresh fruit juices / cocktails / iced tea
  • Arabic tea/coffee
  • And if you catch us on a good day you might even happen upon a Baklava or two…
