WHO WE ARE
Welcome to Meat and Greek, where we bring the authentic flavours of Greek Cypriot Souvlaki to Newport Market. Founded by Sophie and Lisandros, a couple with a passion for sharing traditional Greek cuisine, we have been serving our hearty, no-nonsense souvlaki on the street food and festival scene of Wales since 2014.
BACKGROUND
Our journey began with a “pinch me” moment outside Newport’s local food and drink festival, where we traded under a gazebo. We started our business after serving Lisandro’s traditional family recipe to my Welsh family on holiday. It went down an absolute storm and we decided to see if other people would love it too. Within 6 months we had quit our day jobs and were cooking and serving souvlaki full time! What started as simply giving something a go has turned into our full time livelihood and passion. We also have a street food unit at Goodsheds in Barry and cover as many street food festivals as possible in the truck!
WHAT WE DO
At Meat and Greek, we are best known for our authentic Greek Cypriot Souvlaki. What is souvlaki, you ask? Souvlaki translates literally to “little skewer”. Imagine toasted pitta pockets filled with succulent charcoaled chicken or pork, fresh salad, homemade tzatziki, houmous, and grilled halloumi cheese, garnished with chopped onion and parsley – delicious! If meat’s not your thing, no problem! Swap it for halloumi and dig in.
We cook over lump wood charcoal, which imparts a unique flavour that cannot be replicated by any other cooking method. Whether you visit us at a festival or at one of our stores, our open kitchen invites you to feast your eyes on the sights and smells of authentic Greek Cypriot cooking.
