Who we are
We are a Newport-based ethical fair-trade business that deals in the design, manufacture and retail of Kashmiri scarves, shawls, rugs, wall hangings, handmade bags, paper machie decor and vintage / traditional Kashmiri handmade jewellery.
We are an independent small business run by me (Rifat Hamid) with support from my husband Aamir Wani.
Background
I am originally from Kashmir and have a PhD in Biochemistry. I used to work as a research scientist and have published various research articles in reputed science journals. However, after the birth of my son in 2016, I had to take a break from my conventional career and then in 2019, I started Kash Crafts.
My family back in Kashmir deals in the manufacture of various Kashmiri handmade products and I always had the passion to start a brand of my own. So, after a little research, I realized that there weren’t any Kashmiri handmade products in the market and that is when I decided to bring the beautiful products that my family makes to the UK.
