WHO WE ARE

Academy Espresso Bar is a laid-back café bar with an inviting indoor–outdoor vibe, located on the High Street within Newport Market. Our contemporary, European-inspired space is designed for you to sit back, relax, and enjoy your favourite drink. Whether you’re inside soaking up the atmosphere or outside on our front terrace, you’ll always receive a warm welcome from our friendly team.

BACKGROUND

Academy Espresso Bar is proud to be part of the vibrant Newport Market community. Our vision has always been to create a relaxed, contemporary space where people can unwind and enjoy high-quality drinks in a comfortable setting. We’re passionate about exceptional service and creating an atmosphere that makes every visit feel effortless and enjoyable. Being based in the heart of the market means you can take in the buzz of Newport Market while settling in with a drink you love.

WHAT WE DO

At Academy Espresso Bar, we serve a wide range of drinks to suit every taste and time of day. From ice-cold beers and ciders to cocktails, fine wines, spirits, and low- or no-alcohol options, there’s something for everyone. We also serve iced drinks, hot drinks, softs and mixers, alongside light snacks, brunch, and lunch items — perfect for a pause between market browsing or a longer catch-up with friends.

All of our coffee comes from independent Welsh roastery Coaltown Coffee. We’ve partnered with Coaltown to create a bespoke house coffee sourced from Brazil — rich, balanced, and designed to be enjoyed however you take your coffee. The flavour profile delivers a dark chocolate and almond base with cinder toffee sweetness, making it both versatile and seriously satisfying.

Coaltown roast their coffee on site at their HQ and roastery in Ammanford, South Wales. Hand-roasted in small batches, their process focuses on precision and care, carefully controlling timing and temperature to unlock the unique flavours of each bean as it moves from green to golden and finally to a deep, rich brown. Our baristas are trained to a high standard and know exactly how to bring those flavours to life in every cup — and our team is always happy to share the story behind your coffee, from bean to brew.

Within this area of the market, you can also order street food directly to your table, giving you the freedom to enjoy dishes from across Newport Market without leaving your seat.
